Using Art to Bring Wildlife Conservation Closer to Home

2026 RESIDENCY Program at the GALLERIES on DOWNING

Opening space for contemplative practice, we invite practitioners to slow down and breathe with surrounding plants in our sphere, practice creative acts of sci/art conservation & share seeds and their stories of potential restoration. Broadening perceptions of ‘home’ to include outdoors spheres around our lived-in structures, we invite participants to re-cognize relationships with non-human species who dwell within the urban corridors we call home, thinking of ways we may increase connectivity across Denver’s communities.

We believe in celebrating creative acts of all ilk, and emphasize direct relationship building within human communities and our surrounding habitats. We are looking for practitioners who help deepen relationships with the natural world

Housed in an antique Victorian farmhouse, the GALLERIES on DOWNING are located at 420 North Downing, in the heart of three of Denver’s finest historic districts; the Alamo Placita, Driving Park & Country Club neighborhoods. Centrally located on bike paths and bus routes, we are just minutes from Downtown & Cherry Creek.

Creatives stay on the 2nd floor of the Victorian house, photographed above.
We encourage the use of the common areas, including the extensive native plant gardens & GALLERIES on the ground level for pop-up installations & engagements with communities at the crossroads of Turtle Island.
