  • Abandoned Acequia above La Sagura

    Abandoned acequia line fallow fields above Blanca, on the Sagura River. Surprisingly, more pollinators thrive here than in the active fields below.

  • Acequia – Eco-printing at AADK

    Eco-printing during a residency at AADK in Blanca, Spain. We used dye plants found on our explorations and transferred their color by soaking them in rust-activated water, warmed by the hot mid-summer sun.

    The Stiles African American Heritage Center hosted a Saturday Afternoon Tea Plant Exchange to honor Madam CJ Walker. Volunteers planted native plants in the garden, focusing on community collaboration without a strict plan. They aim to promote biodiversity and support pollinators, sharing plants and seeds with neighbors to enhance local ecosystems.

Attendees can exchange plants significant to them, while honoring Madam CJ Walker’s legacy. Art materials will be provided to create cards celebrating mothers, supported by the Puffin Foundation.
